In N scale the structures do work the trains cannot. A single storefront row sets the depth of a whole town, and a girder bridge over a river tells you where the railway had to spend its money. At 1:160 you can fit a believable industrial district into the space an HO engine house would swallow.
Walthers Cornerstone is the backbone of this collection, with the DPM line from Woodland Scenics, Pikestuff, Rix Products, Atlas, Micro Engineering, Kato and Woodland Scenics itself behind it. Kits run from the DPM 51000 Trackside Transfer Building and DPM 51200 Roadkill Café through the Pikestuff 8012 Distribution Center, the Rix Products 710 Quonset Hut and the Atlas 2841 Passenger Station.
Commercial and industrial buildings make up most of it. The rest splits between building parts and wall sections — DPM 60111 one-storey blank wall, DPM 60106 street-level freight door — railroad structures, stations and platforms, and bridges and piers such as the Micro Engineering 75-150 80' Open-Deck Girder Bridge. Modular wall sections matter more in N than anywhere else: they let you build a frontage to a measured length instead of bending the layout around a fixed kit footprint.
