Description
The Atlas #2801 is a pack of 12 N-scale telephone poles — the classic trackside detail that instantly takes a layout from "toy train" to "miniature railroad." Mid-20th-century North American main lines lived alongside their lineside pole lines: signal circuits, dispatcher phone wires, telegraph, and later, signal repeater feeds all rode the same right-of-way as the trains.
The poles are pre-molded with crossarms and insulators ready to plant; they accept Atlas's accessory pole wire (sold separately) if you want to actually string the lines. Even un-strung they're a strong silhouette in the scene.
How to use
- Drill a small hole in the scenic base, dab in white glue or canopy glue, and press the pole in.
- Period correct from roughly 1900 through the 1970s; some railroads kept lineside pole lines into the 1990s.
- String simulated wire using EZ-Line, fine fishing line, or stretched Atlas accessory wire for a finished look.
- Combine with Atlas accessory N-scale buildings (#2826 viaduct, #2840 signal tower, #2841 station, #2843 roundhouse, #2848 Maywood Station) to build a complete trackside scene.
- Plant roughly every 100 scale feet (≈7-1/2") along the right of way for prototypical spacing.
