The NMRA (National Model Railroad Association) sets the standards that make model trains from different manufacturers actually work together — common wheel profiles, track gauge tolerances, coupler heights, clearances. The NMRA Standards Gauge is the pocket-size precision tool that lets you verify any of those measurements without arguing with a ruler.
We stock the full NMRA Standards Gauge range. The #1 HO Scale gauge is the most-used: it checks HO track gauge, wheel gauge, flangeway gauge and depth, coupler height, points gauge, platform height, and tunnel and train clearances on standard-gauge HO equipment. The #8 N Scale gauge does the same for 1:160 modelling. The #2 HOn3 Scale gauge is for HO 3-foot narrow gauge (Colorado prototypes). The #5 O Scale gauge covers 1:48 modelling.
Every serious modeller eventually owns the NMRA gauge for their scale — it's the difference between guessing whether a turnout's gauge is in spec and knowing. Pair the NMRA gauge with the Micro Engineering 3-Point Track Gauge for laying flex track, our Track collection for the track you're checking, and Hobby Tools for the rest of the workshop kit.
