Chicago Transit Authority's 2600-series Budd 'L' cars have been working the elevated and subway lines for more than 40 years. Built by Budd and pressed into service in the early 1980s, the 2600s run as married pairs across CTA's lines and have worn a steady succession of liveries — the original As-Delivered paint, the Speedlines logo, the white-and-green 75th Anniversary scheme, the Pink Line promotional wrap and today's Circle Logo scheme that Rapido captures on every model. Now operating into their fifth decade, these cars have been the everyday face of Chicago rail transit for two generations.
Rapido's N scale 2600-series 'L' car is a first-time ready-to-run plastic model designed from original factory drawings and field measurements. Cars are sold in married pairs — one powered and one unpowered car — with operating headlights, marker lights, numberboard lights and full interior lighting on both ends. The power car uses a unique low-slung motor design that preserves an open interior even in N scale, while the unpowered car is fully lit and detailed.
Two-car sets are available, plus a four-car Collector set (one powered/unpowered pair and one pair of two unpowered cars) housed in a bookcase-style package. DC/Silent (DCC ready) and DC/DCC/Sound configurations with ESU LokSound 5 Nano are offered. Suggested minimum radius is 9 3/4". This was a conditional release with a 5% early-bird discount through September 15, 2025. Pre-orders require a 25% deposit; balance collected when stock arrives.
