Description
Plastic pellets are one of the most common commodities carried by rail in North America — virtually every manifest train hauls at least one pellet hopper, and team tracks across the continent routinely hold long cuts of them waiting to unload. Beginning in 1997, Trinity built a larger "high-cube" 6,221 cubic-foot pellet hopper to supplement aging four-bay cars, and a slightly enlarged 6,241 cubic-foot version followed. Tens of thousands of these hoppers are in service today, and Trinity is still building the 6,241 variant — making this one of the most ubiquitous modern freight cars on the network.
Rapido's HO Trinity 6221/6241 is the first modern plastic pellet hopper available as a fully detailed ready-to-run model. Both 6,221 and 6,241 carbody variations are tooled, with multiple roof-hatch styles and arrangements, multiple outlet-gate designs, etched-metal roof walks and end walkways, full end-cage detail, and separately applied factory-installed grab irons. A polybag of spare hatches and outlet gates is included so modelers can modify cars for specific eras.
Cars are offered as single cars or six-packs with prototypical car numbers per scheme. Semi-scale metal knuckle couplers and free-rolling trucks with profiled metal wheelsets come standard. Suggested minimum radius is 18". Pre-orders require a 25% deposit; balance collected when stock arrives.
