Description
EMD's E7 was the first wide-selling passenger diesel in North America. 428 A-units and 82 B-units were built between 1945 and 1949, and the E7 quickly became the post-war face of the passenger train, leading premier varnish on practically every major road. The carbody carried EMD's signature bulldog nose — first seen on the FT — while retaining the rectangular side windows of the earlier E-units. The E7 was eventually displaced by the E8 and E9 and demoted to local passenger service and even freight; several units worked New Jersey commuter trains past the formation of Conrail. Only one E7 survives: former Pennsylvania Railroad 5701, preserved at the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania.
Rapido's HO E7A and E7B are loaded with road-specific options: both Phase I and Phase II carbodies, roadname-specific side vent variations, multiple nose configurations, two different back ends, different steam-generator options, single- or dual-headlight configurations, freight or passenger pilots, skirted or non-skirted fuel tanks, and original square-and-slope or Hyatt roller-bearing journal boxes. A heavy die-cast chassis and smooth all-wheel-drive system deliver excellent slow-speed handling, with complete lighting including headlights, class lights, backup lights, ground lights and cab lights.
Available as A-units, B-units and A+B sets. Each locomotive is offered DC/Silent (DCC ready) or Dual-Mode DC/DCC/Sound with ESU LokSound 5 Micro. MoPower capacitor and metal knuckle couplers are standard. Suggested minimum radius is 22". Pre-orders require a 25% deposit; balance collected when stock arrives.
