Bombardier's Bilevel commuter car has been the workhorse of North American commuter rail since GO Transit took delivery of the first cars in 1977. The design spread quickly: Tri-Rail in 1989, Metrolink in 1992, then Coaster, Altamont, Sound Transit, FrontRunner, RailRunner, West Coast Express and more. As of 2026, 14 agencies operate over 1,500 Bilevel cars across North America. In the mid-2010s the design received its most significant update since introduction — the Crash Energy Management (CEM) refresh, with a refined roof profile, revised body shell and window arrangement, and a new stylized cab car built for crew protection and visibility.
Rapido's HO Bilevel returns with the CEM coach and cab cars tooled for the first time in HO, alongside new schemes including the popular Miami Tri-Rail palm-tree wrap. Over ten different body-style variations are offered, all prototypically accurate. Cars ride on free-rolling inside-bearing trucks with roller-bearing details, sprung diaphragms and metal grab irons. Cab cars feature operating ditch lights, headlights and red marker lights with full directional control. Track-powered, flicker-free interior lighting is standard, backed by Rapido's MoPower capacitor for uninterrupted illumination across switches and dirty track.
Sold individually as cab cars or coaches, and in three-packs for instant trains. Pre-orders require a 25% deposit; balance is collected when stock arrives.
