Description
In 1956 the New Haven Railroad purchased the Roger Williams — a complete passenger train set built by Budd around the RDC platform but modified for high-speed service into New York City. The set's two cab cars used streamlined push-pull style fronts with full train control, while the four intermediate cars were powered RDCs without cabs. All six cars carried third-rail electrical pickup shoes and small traction motors so the train could run into Grand Central Terminal under electric power. The exterior and interior styling was the work of noted modernist architect Marcel Breuer. The Roger Williams ran in revenue service on the New Haven for more than three decades.
Rapido's HO Roger Williams is a first-ever plastic ready-to-run model of this distinctive train, accurately designed from original blueprints. The cab units use Rapido's proven smooth in-floor RDC drive system; intermediate cars are unpowered but fully lit. The model features an insane level of underbody detail, factory-installed separate grab irons and handrails, full interior detail, and Rapido's MoPower capacitor for uninterrupted DCC power. Cab versions include complete lighting effects appropriate to the prototype.
Offered as a three-car set (two powered cab cars + one unpowered intermediate), as a two-cab set (both powered), as a single powered cab or as a single unpowered intermediate. Each powered cab is available DC/Silent or DC/DCC/Sound with ESU LokSound 5 Micro. Suggested minimum radius is 22". Pre-orders require a 25% deposit; balance collected when stock arrives.
