Description
The Rapido 40504 is an HO scale EMD GP40 in Canadian National "Stripes" livery — road number #4012 — with factory-installed DC / DCC / Sound (dual-mode).
Prototype: The EMD GP40 is a 3,000 hp four-axle road-switcher powered by the 16-cylinder 645E3 turbocharged prime mover, built by General Motors Electro-Motive Division from 1965 to 1971. Over 1,200 were produced for some 30 railroads, making the GP40 the gold standard of four-axle power. Canadian National rostered a large fleet and ran them system-wide in fast freight and general service well into the modern era.
