The Rapido 1130996 is a single HO scale Vancouver Iron & Engineering Works (VIEW) piggyback flatcar painted black and unlettered, ready for your own decals.

Trailer-on-flatcar was the big railroad innovation of the 1960s, and both Canadian roads bought purpose-built TOFC flats that could carry a pair of 26' pups or one big trailer. Canadian National took 283 cars from Vancouver Iron and Engineering Works (VIEW) from 1966, rebuilt to a single hitch and renumbered into the 687000 series in 1976, running into the late 1980s; Canadian Pacific bought 305 cars from Marine Industries Limited (MIL) in 1972, numbered 505625–505930, later fitted with container pedestals and working into the late 1990s. Far from staying in Canada, they ran in intermodal and manifest trains across the Northeast and as far as California.

  • Designed from original car drawings; road-specific ends
  • Durable die-cast sill for weight, with open mesh grating wheelways
  • Two hitch styles — upright and lowered; metal grab irons; detailed underbody brake piping
  • Semi-scale metal knuckle couplers; Barber S-2 trucks with profiled metal wheels
  • Suggested minimum radius 18"
