The Rapido 1043558 is an HO scale rebuilt F40PH-2CAT with the extended carbody for a separate CAT head-end-power engine in the NJ TRANSIT scheme, road number #4120 — DC/DCC/Sound with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder. NJ TRANSIT's F40PH-2CATs — rebuilt with an extended body for a CAT HEP engine, strobe lights and ditch lights — wear the silver scheme with the purple, orange and blue NJT stripes.
Built by EMD from 1976 for Amtrak and quickly adopted by commuter agencies across Canada and the United States, the 3,000 hp F40PH is the most popular passenger locomotive of the last fifty years. Rapido's 2026 run adds all-new late-production Q-fan bodies plus the F40PH-3 and F40PH-2CAT rebuild variations, with road-specific ditch lights, bells, strobes and PTC antennas where appropriate.
