The Rapido 1043551 is an HO scale rebuilt F40PH-2CAT with the extended carbody for a separate CAT head-end-power engine in the Caltrain Red Caltrain Logo scheme, road number #901 — DC/DCC/Sound with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder. Caltrain's F40PH-2CAT rebuilds gained an extended carbody for a separate Caterpillar HEP engine, plus dual headlights and ditch lights, in the red-logo silver scheme.
Built by EMD from 1976 for Amtrak and quickly adopted by commuter agencies across Canada and the United States, the 3,000 hp F40PH is the most popular passenger locomotive of the last fifty years. Rapido's 2026 run adds all-new late-production Q-fan bodies plus the F40PH-3 and F40PH-2CAT rebuild variations, with road-specific ditch lights, bells, strobes and PTC antennas where appropriate.
- Road-specific detail arrangement, including cab roof air-conditioning and PTC antennas where appropriate
- Working headlights, class or red marker lights, number boards, strobe and ditch lights (where appropriate)
- Separate metal grab irons and handrails with etched-metal grills
- Incredible underbody detail — piping, electrical box, sand lines
- Suggested minimum radius 18"
- ESU LokSound 5 DCC/Sound decoder with MoPower capacitor for uninterrupted power
