The Rapido 1043513 is an HO scale EMD F40PH in the MBTA As-Delivered scheme, road number #1002 — DC/DCC/Sound with a factory-installed ESU LokSound 5 decoder. Boston's MBTA took delivery of its first F40PHs in 1978 in silver with a purple band and yellow stripe, non-dynamic-brake bodies, a cab-mounted bell and nose marker lights — the start of 40+ years of F40 service on the T.
Built by EMD from 1976 for Amtrak and quickly adopted by commuter agencies across Canada and the United States, the 3,000 hp F40PH is the most popular passenger locomotive of the last fifty years. Rapido's 2026 run adds all-new late-production Q-fan bodies plus the F40PH-3 and F40PH-2CAT rebuild variations, with road-specific ditch lights, bells, strobes and PTC antennas where appropriate.
- Road-specific detail arrangement, including cab roof air-conditioning and PTC antennas where appropriate
- Working headlights, class or red marker lights, number boards, strobe and ditch lights (where appropriate)
- Separate metal grab irons and handrails with etched-metal grills
- Incredible underbody detail — piping, electrical box, sand lines
- Suggested minimum radius 18"
- ESU LokSound 5 DCC/Sound decoder with MoPower capacitor for uninterrupted power
