The Rapido 1043016 is an HO scale EMD F40PH in the MBTA Simplified Scheme scheme, road number #1000 — DC/Silent (21-pin DCC-ready), with ditch lights. The later, simplified MBTA scheme — silver body with purple band, cab-mounted bell and ditch lights — is how Boston's rebuilt F40PHs look in service today.
Built by EMD from 1976 for Amtrak and quickly adopted by commuter agencies across Canada and the United States, the 3,000 hp F40PH is the most popular passenger locomotive of the last fifty years. Rapido's 2026 run adds all-new late-production Q-fan bodies plus the F40PH-3 and F40PH-2CAT rebuild variations, with road-specific ditch lights, bells, strobes and PTC antennas where appropriate.
