The Rapido 1043006 is an HO scale EMD F40PH in the Amtrak Phase III scheme, road number #406 — DC/Silent (21-pin DCC-ready), with ditch lights. Amtrak's Phase III red, white and blue stripes on the F40PH are the definitive look of American intercity passenger railroading from the 1980s and 1990s — these units led everything from the Empire Builder to the Northeast Corridor.
Built by EMD from 1976 for Amtrak and quickly adopted by commuter agencies across Canada and the United States, the 3,000 hp F40PH is the most popular passenger locomotive of the last fifty years. Rapido's 2026 run adds all-new late-production Q-fan bodies plus the F40PH-3 and F40PH-2CAT rebuild variations, with road-specific ditch lights, bells, strobes and PTC antennas where appropriate.
