The Rapido 1024004A is a single HO scale National Steel Car 89' bi-level open autorack in the CP Rail Red scheme (1985+), with one road number from the series #540106, #540113, #540124, #540130, #540143, #540149. A black bi-level with plain red CP Rail panels of the mid-1980s repaint scheme. Also available as a six-pack of all six numbers (item 1024004).
Canadian National and Canadian Pacific took their first 89' autoracks in 1962 — Whitehead & Kales racks on National Steel Car flats from Hamilton, Ontario — and the bi-level version followed in 1964 to carry light trucks and utility vehicles, with further orders through 1970 (202 for CP, 125 for CN). Open-design cars with safety screens, many ran well into the early 2000s carrying modern vehicles, so they suit layouts set anywhere from the mid-1960s to the 2000s. This is the first time the NSC 89' autorack has been offered as a highly detailed ready-to-run plastic model.
