Description
The PECO SL-51 is a moulded foam ballast inlay shaped to fit under a PECO small radius right-hand turnout in HO/OO. It gives the turnout a neat, pre-formed ballast shoulder and quiet, resilient underlay in one step — no loose ballast to glue around delicate moving point blades.
Why an inlay under a turnout: Ballasting a turnout the traditional way is the riskiest job in tracklaying — one stray drop of glue in the tiebars or point blades and the turnout stops throwing. A shaped inlay eliminates that risk entirely while still giving the correct raised ballast profile, and its foam body deadens running noise.
How to use
- Lay the inlay on the baseboard, sit the small-radius right-hand turnout into it, and pin or glue in place.
- Match with PECO ballast inlay strip / turnout inlays for adjoining plain track so the ballast line runs unbroken.
- Blend the edges into surrounding scenery with a sprinkle of loose ballast and scatter material if desired.
