Description
The NCE 5240234 UTP-CAT5 is the CAT5 version of NCE's Universal Throttle Panel — the same RJ12 cab jacks on the front as the standard UTP, but with two RJ45 (CAT5) sockets on the back so you can daisy-chain panel-to-panel with off-the-shelf ethernet cable.
Why CAT5: Eight conductors instead of six means less voltage drop, longer runs and better noise immunity on the cab bus. NCE recommends the UTP-CAT5 for panels 30–40 ft or more from the command station. A 5.5/2.5 mm barrel jack between the RJ45 sockets accepts a 12–14 V DC regulated supply (NCE P114 or similar) to boost cab bus power on long runs; an on-board LED shows when external power is in use.
Versus the standard UTP (5240207): the plain UTP has four RJ12 jacks only and a 3.5 mm power jack. Need to attach a CAT5 run to an existing RJ12 panel? Use the 5240235 adapter instead.
