Description
The NCE 5240061 DB5a 5-Amp Generic DCC Booster with 14V Power Supply is the DB5a — NCE's current 5-amp add-on booster, and the direct replacement for the discontinued DB5 (5240028). It adds a full 5 A power district to an SB5 / SB5a, PH5, CS03 or most other NMRA DCC command stations.
What it does: True 5 A booster compatible with all NCE systems and most other NMRA-compliant command stations. Ships with the new NCE P514a power supply — 13.8 V DC (14 V), 5 A, internationally approved (US / CA / UK / AU) — so it's ready to run out of the box. Works with autoreversers and circuit breakers. Plastic enclosure.

DB5a vs. the old DB5 (5240028): Same 5 A booster electronics, same enclosure, same hook-up. The "a" revision swaps the old 12 V / 13.8 V switchable P514 supply for the new fixed-13.8 V P514a. The DB5 is now on NCE's discontinued list, so the DB5a is what you want going forward.
Power Cab owners, please note: the DB5a is a "dumb" booster — it needs a command station to feed it. It does not plug into a Power Cab on its own. If you're outgrowing a Power Cab, add an SB5a SmartBooster first (that becomes your 5 A command station); DB5a boosters then stack onto the SB5a for extra districts.
