Description
The Micro Engineering 30-106 is a pack of 1,000 small 1/4" track spikes — fine blackened-steel spikes for handlaying model railroad track. The offset head grips the rail foot and holds it firmly to the tie, just like the prototype.
Which spike size: The small 1/4" spike with its fine point is the classic choice for HO scale handlaying — small enough in the head to look right beside Code 55-83 rail, with enough shank for a firm bite in wood ties. Also widely used for HOn3 and fine-scale work.
Use: Push or press each spike in with fine needle-nose spiking pliers, working alternate sides of the rail to keep gauge true. The 1,000-count pack is perfect for a module, a few turnouts, or your first handlaying project; step up to the 15,000-count bulk pack (30-105) for a full layout.
