The KATO 20-006 is a 2-pack of N Unitrack double slab straight track sections, each 248 mm (9-3/4′′) long — a single roadbed piece carrying two parallel sets of rails on grey concrete slab (no ballast), modelling modern Shinkansen and high-speed mainline practice.
Slab track vs ballasted track: Slab track is the ballastless concrete-pad construction used on modern high-speed mainlines (Shinkansen, ICE, TGV-LGV, recent North American rebuilds). KATO's slab Unitrack reproduces the smooth grey concrete pad with embedded rails — perfect for modelling Japanese commuter lines, Shinkansen, or any modern high-speed corridor.
Double track Unitrack: A single roadbed piece carrying two parallel sets of rails at 33 mm prototype centres — the standard Japanese-prototype double-track centerline, also matching modern North American mainline practice. Drop in as one piece; faster and more rigid than two single tracks side-by-side.
