Description
The KATO 2-252 is a premium HO Unitrack superelevated easement curve at 790 mm radius, with grey concrete ties on grey ballast roadbed — a single track piece that combines progressive-radius easement geometry with banked outer rail.
Easement curve: A track section whose radius increases progressively from one end to the other, providing a smooth transition between tangent (straight) track and a full-radius curve. Easements reduce lateral jerk on long passenger and freight equipment, allow higher speeds through curves, and reproduce real-railroad spiral-curve engineering on Class-1 mainlines.
Superelevation: Banking of the outer rail above the inner on a curve — the same engineering used on prototype high-speed mainlines (Shinkansen, NEC, BNSF Transcon) to neutralize lateral force from centripetal motion. KATO's superelevated curves let trains lean realistically through the apex.
KATO HO Unitrack system: Code 83 nickel-silver rail molded into a factory-attached ballasted plastic roadbed, with integrated UniJoiners. Layouts assemble five to ten times faster than sectional or flex track.
