Description
The KATO 2-143 is a 2-pack of HO Unitrack 123 mm (4-7/8′′) straight track sections with a built-in permanent magnet below the ties — the Unitrack magnetic uncoupler, equivalent to Kadee's #321/322 ramp uncoupler but factory-installed in the Unitrack roadbed.
How it works: The buried magnet swings the steel uncoupling pins ("trip pins") on Kadee #5, #58, scale-head, and most modern magnetic knuckle couplers as cars pass over. Stop the train directly above the magnet, then back away to leave the spotted car behind — classic hands-free uncoupling for industrial spurs and yard tracks.
KATO HO Unitrack system: Each section combines Code 83 nickel-silver rail, molded plastic ties, and a factory-attached ballasted roadbed in one drop-in piece. Integrated UniJoiners replace the rail joiner + separate roadbed steps — layouts assemble five to ten times faster than sectional or flex track, and break down and reassemble cleanly. Brown ballast represents wood-tie mainline; concrete-tie variants (#2-141, #2-152) represent modern poured-concrete mainline.
