Description
The KATO 2-142 is a 2-pack of HO Unitrack 123 mm (4-7/8′′) straight track sections with built-in grade crossing planks between the rails plus tapered rerailer ramps — two essential layout pieces combined in one factory-finished section.
How the rerailer works: Tapered ramps inside the gauge automatically lift a derailed wheel flange back onto the railhead as the truck rolls across — saves the manual rerailing pull-out of a finger or a 0-5-0 derail tool.
How the grade crossing works: Molded plastic crossing planks fill the gap between rails outboard of the gauge, allowing a road or driveway to cross the track at level — the classic spur-into-industry or branch-through-town scene.
KATO HO Unitrack system: Each section combines Code 83 nickel-silver rail, molded plastic ties, and a factory-attached ballasted roadbed in one drop-in piece. Integrated UniJoiners replace the rail joiner + separate roadbed steps — layouts assemble five to ten times faster than sectional or flex track, and break down and reassemble cleanly. Brown ballast represents wood-tie mainline; concrete-tie variants (#2-141, #2-152) represent modern poured-concrete mainline.
