Description
The KATO 2-141 is a 4-pack of HO Unitrack 123 mm (4-7/8′′) concrete-tie straight track sections — the modern-mainline variant of the standard wood-tie #2-140, with grey concrete ties molded into a grey-ballast roadbed.
Prototype: Concrete ties replaced wood on many North American mainlines starting in the 1960s and are now the standard for Class-1 high-speed mainline track. Use concrete-tie Unitrack for modern mainline modelling (BNSF Transcon, NS Crescent Corridor, CP/CN intermodal mains); reserve wood-tie for branch lines, yards, and pre-1970 modelling.
KATO HO Unitrack system: Each section combines Code 83 nickel-silver rail, molded plastic ties, and a factory-attached ballasted roadbed in one drop-in piece. Integrated UniJoiners replace the rail joiner + separate roadbed steps — layouts assemble five to ten times faster than sectional or flex track, and break down and reassemble cleanly. Brown ballast represents wood-tie mainline; concrete-tie variants (#2-141, #2-152) represent modern poured-concrete mainline.
