Description
The KATO 176-8540-S is the DCC sound-equipped version of KATO's N scale EMD SD70ACu in Canadian Pacific's Military Heritage tribute scheme, road number #6644 — the number chosen to commemorate D-Day, June 6, 1944. CP unveiled its military tribute SD70ACu fleet in 2019 to honour the veterans and serving members of the armed forces.
Prototype: The SD70ACu is CP's heavy rebuild program — former SD90MAC hulls rebuilt with modern AC traction control into 4,300 HP road units for heavy grain, coal and intermodal service across the prairies and mountain grades.
KATO drivetrain: Twin brass flywheels, low-friction bearings, 5-pole skew-wound motor, and all-wheel pickup — KATO's signature for smooth slow-speed running and reliable pulling on any track system (Unitrack, Atlas, PECO).
This is the factory sound-equipped version — fitted with a DCC sound decoder delivering prime-mover, horn and bell effects. Runs on any NMRA-compliant DCC system out of the box, with sound also active on DC layouts within decoder limits.
