Description
The Kadee #812 is the O-scale multi-purpose coupler height gauge — the one tool that takes the guesswork out of coupler setup. Five jobs in a single all-metal fixture: coupler height, underbody clearance, NMRA track gauge, trip-pin height, and a mounting jig for the #811 uncoupler. If you run O scale with Kadee couplers, this is the tool that makes them work every time.
Five jobs in one gauge
- Coupler height — visual reference for correct O-scale coupler head height above the rail
- Underbody clearance — checks how far your car's underframe sits off the railhead
- Track gauge — verifies track width against N.M.R.A. standards
- Trip pin height — too low and it drags on turnouts and crossings, too high and it won't uncouple
- Mounting jig — positions the Kadee #811 between-the-rails uncoupler accurately

How to use it
- Set the assembled gauge on a level section of straight track
- Roll a locomotive or freight car up to it
- The coupler head should line up with the gauge's coupler; the trip pin should clear the marked clearance line
- If anything is off — bend the trip pin with Kadee #237 pliers, or shim the coupler with #208 / #209 fibre washers
