Description
The Kadee #308 is a magnetic uncoupler installed hidden under the track / between the ties. When a Kadee coupler with a steel trip pin passes over the magnet, the magnet pulls the trip pins outward, opening the knuckles — instant hands-free uncoupling.
How it works
- Delayed-action: after the trip pin passes over, the knuckle stays open until the next car couples or the train moves the car off the magnet — push cuts of cars across the magnet and uncouple them anywhere downstream.
- Permanent magnet — no electrical wiring required
- Works with all Kadee couplers and any NMRA-compliant magnetic knuckle coupler with a steel trip pin (McHenry, Atlas Accumate, etc.)
Installation tips
- Mark the magnet location with a small dot on the side of the rail
- Use Kadee #334 gluing jig for clean alignment
- Don't place the magnet inside a turnout or curve — keep on straight track
