Description

The DCC Specialties RRampMeter (Version I) is a digital meter built to read DCC track power correctly. Ordinary panel meters and most multimeters are designed for DC or 60 Hz household AC and give the wrong numbers on a DCC signal. The RRampMeter measures true RMS volts and amps on DCC, and reads AC and DC as well.

Version I is the bare circuit module without an enclosure, the version meant for mounting in a control panel or fascia. Wire it in line between your booster and the track and you get a constant readout of track voltage and how much current your trains are drawing. It's the easiest way to set booster output to the right voltage for your decoders and sound units, and to spot a section that's running close to its limit.

  • Measures: DCC, AC and DC volts and amps (true RMS, ±2%)
  • DCC range: 7–28 V, up to 10 A
  • Display: Two 3-digit LED readouts, one for voltage and one for current
  • Power: No battery needed on DCC; it runs from the track power it's measuring
  • Indicators: Two LEDs show whether DCC or AC is present
  • Form: Bare circuit module (board about 5.6" long) with terminals for your layout wiring; no case or clip leads
  • Scale: All scales
  • Item #: 246-RAMPMETER1

Tip: To read current, the meter has to be wired in line. Many modellers put one on each booster output. If every power district already has its own circuit breaker, one meter per booster is usually enough.

Note: Version I needs about 7 volts or more to operate, so it isn't meant for very low-voltage readings.
