Description

The Circuitron 5202 DT-2 Grade Crossing Detection Unit w/Full Logic is Circuitron's flagship bidirectional grade-crossing detection circuit — built to duplicate prototype crossing behaviour for any train length from a single locomotive to a 100-car drag.

What it does: Uses four Opto-Sensors (included) embedded between the ties — two on each side of the crossing — to produce true prototype action: crossing flashers activate as the train approaches, remain active while the train occupies the crossing, and turn off only after the rear of the train clears. Works with AC, DC, or DCC track power. No modifications to rolling stock required.

  • Detection method: 4 × Opto-Sensors (included)
  • Direction: Fully bidirectional
  • Train length: Independent — handles 1 to 100+ cars
  • Track power: AC / DC / DCC (any system)
  • Output: Logic level — drives Circuitron flashers (FL-2 / FL-2HD), bell (BR-3), external relay (ER-1 / ER-2)
  • Power: 10–18 V AC or DC
  • Circuitron SKU: 5202 (Walthers 800-5202)

Tip: The most prototype-accurate grade-crossing circuit on the market. Pair with FL-2HD (5122) for flashers and BR-3 (5703) for the recorded bell.

About Circuitron: A USA-made model-railroad electronics specialist (Maryville, Illinois) founded in the 1970s. Famous for the industry-standard Tortoise slow-motion under-table switch machine and its surface-mount cousin the SMAIL. The full range covers detection (block detectors, Opto-Sensor grade-crossing logic), automation (auto-reversers, external relays, twin-coil alternators), signal / lighting electronics (alternating flashers, ditch-light oscillators, strobe drivers), power supplies, and a complete set of Tortoise / SMAIL replacement parts plus the solderless ZipZ connection system. Most circuits work with AC, DC, or DCC track power unless specifically noted otherwise.
