Center-beam flatcars are built for one job: moving bundled building materials. Using the same basic structure as a bulkhead flatcar, they add a full-length centre partition so loads of dimensional lumber, plywood and drywall can be strapped down from both sides and worked by forklift from either end. The Soo Line, long a Canadian Pacific subsidiary, bridged lumber traffic between the Canadian West and the US Midwest.
