Center-beam flatcars are built for one job: moving bundled building materials. Using the same basic structure as a bulkhead flatcar, they add a full-length centre partition so loads of dimensional lumber, plywood and drywall can be strapped down from both sides and worked by forklift from either end. A fitting car for Northern Pacific's timber-country lines through Montana, Idaho and Washington.
