Center-beam flatcars are built for one job: moving bundled building materials. Using the same basic structure as a bulkhead flatcar, they add a full-length centre partition so loads of dimensional lumber, plywood and drywall can be strapped down from both sides and worked by forklift from either end. Burlington Northern moved Pacific Northwest lumber east in solid strings of these cars.
