Built by the thousands in the 1930s and 1940s, 2-bay offset-side hoppers moved coal from mine tipples to power plants, steel mills and ports across North America. Hojalata y Lámina S.A. (HYLSA) of Monterrey, Mexico — the pioneering steelmaker behind the HYL direct-reduction process — rostered these hoppers for raw-material service; this car is lettered HYLXX #7518.
The Atlas Trainman HO model is an affordable, ready-to-run car with free-rolling 50-ton trucks, blackened metal wheels, detailed brake gear and body-mounted AccuMate couplers.
