Built by the thousands in the 1930s and 1940s, 2-bay offset-side hoppers moved coal from mine tipples to power plants, steel mills and ports across North America. Conrail inherited thousands of veteran hoppers from its 1976 predecessors and kept them busy in coal and aggregate service; this car is lettered CR #403895.
