Description
The Atlas 881 is an HO Code 100 double-track through-plate-girder bridge kit — a wider variant of the #880 with two parallel tracks running between three girder bays. Built-in rail at 2′′ track centers, the de-facto standard for HO Code 100 mainline double-track.
Prototype: Double-track through plate-girder bridges carry the heavy mainlines of class-1 railroads — Conrail/NS, BNSF, UP, CN, CP — over highways and minor watercourses. The three-girder design (one between the tracks, two on the outside) braces the structure against lateral loads from passing trains.
Layout uses: Use as the centerpiece of a mainline double-track scene; pair with Atlas 81 piers and 82 pier girders for an elevated multi-track viaduct. Drop-in with any 2′′-centered double-track plan using #833 curves and #821 straights.
