Description
Atlas 703 is an HO scale water tower kit modelled on the classic North American wood-staved tank-on-trestle that fed steam locomotives at division-point engine terminals and at way-side filling stops. The tank rests on an open timber bent, with a counter-weighted water spout that swings out over the centreline of the track.
The kit is moulded in colour, parts snap or glue easily, and the spout can be posed in the stowed or filling position. A water tower like this still earns its keep on diesel-era layouts as a piece of "industrial archaeology" — many survived into the 1970s as standpipes for fire service. Pairs naturally with the Atlas #709 Roundhouse (3-stall) for a steam-era engine terminal scene, or with the #702 trackside shanty for a smaller wayside stop.
