Description

The Atlas 592 is an HO Plate Girder Bridge, assembled, with Code 83 nickel-silver rail — the shorter-span workhorse bridge that handles small streams, road undercrossings, and yard-throat span work on prototype railroads.

What a Plate Girder is. Two steel plate girders carry a deck between them — the train runs in a U-shaped channel formed by the girders. The construction depth is minimal compared to truss bridges, so the bridge fits where vertical clearance is tight (under highway bridges, in narrow valleys). One of the most common bridge types on the prototype: nearly every short-span trestle replacement on North American railroads from 1900 onward used plate-girder construction.

Assembled and ready. Comes pre-built with Code 83 track already in place. Drop it in, mate the rail joiners, and you have a finished bridge — no kit assembly. Pair with Atlas 81 bridge piers for elevated mainline-over-road scenes.
