Description
The Atlas 588 is an HO Code 83 nickel-silver Snap-Track Starter Set — a complete track package that builds a 38" × 56" oval with passing siding, the right size for a 4×5 hollow-core door layout or a beginner's first HO oval.
What's in the box. Sixteen pieces of Code 83 Snap Track plus two manual turnouts, totaling enough to build an oval with a passing siding so two trains can meet:
- 2 × 9" Straight
- 16 × 18" Radius Curve
- 1 × Left Hand Manual Turnout
- 1 × Right Hand Manual Turnout
- 1 × Pair of Terminal Joiners (for power feed)
Why this layout works. An 18" radius oval fits 40-foot box cars and 4-axle diesels, the passing siding lets you switch which train is on the mainline at any moment, and the 9" straights between the curves are exactly the right length for a station scene. Easily expandable — add more straights (Atlas 520–525), 22" radius curves (Atlas 535) for wider radius, more turnouts (Atlas 541–546), and any rolling stock you like. Trains and power pack sold separately.
