Description
The Atlas 535 is an HO Code 83 Snap Track 22-inch radius curved track, six-pack — half a circle at 22" radius, the curve that lets 6-axle diesels and 80-foot passenger cars run without overhang or coupler swing problems.
When 22" earns its keep. An 18" curve will run a 4-axle diesel and 50-foot freight, but the moment you bring a SD40-2, an SD70, a full-length passenger car, or anything beyond a 4-8-2 steam locomotive onto a 4×8 layout, things tighten up fast — coupler mismatch on the inside of the curve, overhang scraping scenery, drag through long trains. 22" radius is the modern minimum for mainline 6-axle power. Six 30° sections complete a half-circle on a 44" × 44" footprint — you'll need at least a 4-foot-wide shelf to close the loop.
Build quality. Code 83 nickel-silver rail, brown molded ties with centerline nail holes for #2540 track nails, pre-fitted rail joiners. The 22" radius matches the curved leg of Atlas's 22" Snap-Switch turnouts (Atlas 482, 483, 544), so you can splice a turnout directly into a 22" curve.
