Description
The Atlas 50007127 is an N scale CNCF 5000 box car in Canadian Pacific paint (ex-MCSA, ex-Missouri-Kansas-Texas / Soo Line lineage), road number CP #212152 — a 50-foot 100-ton plug-door box car of the 1970s-1990s era, acquired by CP in the consolidation period.
Prototype. CNCF 5000-class 50-foot plug-door box cars were originally built for Missouri Pacific / Texas-Pacific / MCSA (Mid-Atlantic Car Service Association) car pool service in the late 1970s, hauling palletized lading, paper rolls, and similar high-cube freight. When CP acquired the cars in the asset reorganization of the early 1990s, they were renumbered into the CP 212xxx series and repainted into the CP action-red multimark scheme. The plug door (vs. a standard sliding door) gave a flush exterior and a clean interior with no door track to catch on lading — the right choice for high-value paper and consumer goods that needed protection.
