Description
The Atlas 50006466 is an N scale 17,600-gallon Trinity tank car in Ontario Northland paint, road number ONT #8 — a high-capacity general-service tank car for chemicals, light oil products, and other non-pressurized liquid commodities.
Prototype. 17,600-gallon Trinity-built tank cars are the workhorse general-service tank car of the 1990s–2010s: 30-foot tank length, single compartment, 100-ton trucks, used for everything from caustic soda to vegetable oil to ethanol. Ontario Northland Railway — the provincial Crown corporation railway running from North Bay to Moosonee — leases or owns a small tank-car fleet for service to remote northern Ontario communities, particularly heating oil and chemical distribution to towns along the polar-bear coast. ONT #8 represents that limited but iconic tank-car presence on the northern Ontario short line.
Atlas Master Line tank car. Three separate manway / platform / ladder arrangements are tooled into the model and applied as appropriate per road name, capturing the variations between car classes. Fine-scale railings, separately-applied brake rigging, separately-applied manway 'clamshell'-style cover (where appropriate), 100-ton roller-bearing trucks. Body-mounted AccuMate® couplers.
