Description
The Atlas 50006192 is an N scale Trainman 40-foot double-door box car in Canadian National paint, road number CN #537937 — second of two CN 40-foot DD box cars in this Trainman run.
Prototype. CN's 537000- and 587000-series 40-foot double-door box cars were 50-ton AAR-class XM boxes built through the 1960s, repainted to the CN noodle scheme in the 1970s, and used in mixed-freight service through the early 1990s. The 16-foot door opening (twice the standard 8-foot opening) made them the right car for automotive parts, palletized loads, and bulky packaged goods that wouldn't fit through a single door. The earlier #537xxx series was repainted in the noodle scheme during the 1970s rebuild program; running a #537xxx alongside a #587xxx in the same train shows the heritage block of CN's DD box car fleet at a CN-tone layout.
