Description
A rerailer is a track section with a ramped tie strip that guides derailed wheels back onto the rails as the equipment passes over it — a vital tool when re-railing cars dropped onto the layout by hand. The Atlas #471 is a two-pack of rerailer sections for HO True-Track Code 83.
Each rerailer is a standard-length True-Track section with the rerailer ramp molded into the ties; trains pass through normally and any derailed equipment is steered back onto the rails.
How to use
- Drop a rerailer section into any True-Track Code 83 loop, near a yard throat or industry where you most often set out equipment by hand.
- To re-rail a car: place it on the rerailer (wheels anywhere over the ramp) and push it gently — the ramps cam the wheels back into gauge.
- Also doubles as a clean spot to set down a newly unboxed locomotive or car onto the layout.
- One rerailer per yard or per loop is typical; two-pack covers a small to medium layout.
- Pairs with #452 (3" straight), #453 (1.5" straight), #454 (2" straight), #460 (18" curve), #465 (terminal joiners), and #470 (bumpers) to make a complete True-Track Code 83 layout.
