ALCo answered the horsepower race again in 1965 with the Century 630, a 3,000-hp six-axle powered by the 16-cylinder 251E and the first North American production diesel built with an AC traction alternator — a technology every builder soon adopted. Southern Pacific tried the big ALCos in heavy mountain service, its C-630s working freight out of Roseville and over the Sierra; this model depicts SP #3153.
The Atlas Master Series N scale C-630 pairs crisp, road-specific tooling with a smooth dual-flywheel mechanism. This Gold edition arrives with a factory-fitted ESU LokSound decoder for rich, prototype-specific ALCo sound on DCC and DC layouts.
