ALCo's Century 628 was the flagship of the mid-1960s horsepower race: a 2,750-hp six-axle road switcher powered by the 16-cylinder 251C diesel, and briefly the most powerful production locomotive money could buy when it debuted in 1963. Monon's C-628s were the biggest locomotives the Hoosier Line ever owned, assigned to heavy freight between Chicago and Louisville; this model depicts Monon #404.
The Atlas Master Series N scale C-628 pairs crisp, road-specific tooling with a smooth dual-flywheel mechanism. This Gold edition arrives with a factory-fitted ESU LokSound decoder for rich, prototype-specific ALCo sound on DCC and DC layouts.
