Description
The ALCO S-2 was a 1,000 hp four-axle yard switcher (1940-50) powered by ALCO's 539T turbocharged prime mover. Great Northern rostered S-2s in terminal switching at Seattle, St. Paul, and other division points. This is Atlas's Master Gold N scale S-2 in GN mineral red as road number #2, with factory ESU LokSound sound and DCC.
The Master Gold spec elevates the S-2 with prototype-recorded ALCO 539T sound, a powerful five-pole motor with dual flywheels, fine-scale handrails, separately-applied piping/cut levers/air hoses, horizontal or vertical radiator shutter option, die-cast chassis, and directional LED lighting including cab rear headlight.
How to use
- Any N scale Code 55 or Code 80 track.
- Plug-and-play DCC/Sound on any NMRA DCC system; default address 03.
- Also runs on DC with basic sound at higher voltages.
- Minimum recommended radius: 9.75".
- Body-mount couplers, Micro-Trains compatible.
- This is the sound version of Atlas 40005699 (same GN #2 in DC). For a non-sound roster mate, pair with Atlas 40005700 (GN #7 DC).
