Description

The EMD GP38-2 was the workhorse four-axle, 2,000 hp non-turbocharged road switcher that EMD built from 1972 through 1986 — more than 2,200 units delivered, making it one of the most successful diesel locomotives in North American history. Canadian Pacific rostered its GP38-2s in branchline freight, transfer, and local service across Canada from the late 1970s onward; many remain in service today on CP and successor short lines.

This is Atlas's Master Series N scale model of the Phase II carbody finished in CP's classic action red livery as road number #4421. It's factory-equipped with an ESU LokSound V5 sound decoder playing prototype-recorded EMD 645E sounds, plus a five-pole skew-wound motor with dual flywheels, all-wheel pickup, blackened metal wheels, golden-white LED directional headlights, and factory-mounted AccuMate® magnetic knuckle couplers.

How to use

  • Runs on any N scale Code 55 or Code 80 track (Atlas, PECO, Kato Unitrack via transition).
  • Plug-and-play DCC/Sound — assign address on any NMRA-compliant DCC system; default address 03.
  • Also runs on DC (analog) with basic motor control; sound is DCC-only.
  • Minimum recommended radius: 11". AccuMate couplers are body-mounted and compatible with Micro-Trains.
  • Excellent in MU consist with other Atlas Master GP-series and SD-series CP diesels.
