Description
Atlas #315 is a 50-foot reel of 20 AWG stranded layout wire in black — the workhorse single-conductor wire for bus runs, track feeds, and accessory wiring on model railroads. 20 AWG handles the current of any common-scale DC pack or DCC booster (5-10 A NMRA) with plenty of margin on a typical home layout.
Despite Shopify's category tag, this is general-purpose model railroad wire, not a DCC-specific product. Works on any scale and any layout — DC, DCC, or AC accessory.
How to use
- Black is the conventional color for one rail of the track bus (sometimes called "outside rail" or "common") — pair with red (#316) for the other rail.
- Strip with a 20 AWG / 18 AWG wire stripper; suitcase-connect, screw-terminal, or solder to track feeders.
- 50 ft per reel — enough for a small-to-medium home layout's main bus runs.
- Stranded conductor gives flexibility for routing through benchwork — fish through holes without kinking.
- Color-code consistently across the layout for sane troubleshooting: black for one polarity, red for the other.
