Description
A No.6 frog turnout is the standard mainline switch geometry in Atlas's N Code 80 range — the diverging route opens at a 1-in-6 rate (~9.46°), gentler than the typical Snap-Track #4 and well-suited to passenger and modern intermodal equipment. The #2704 is the left-hand version with the Atlas integrated remote switch machine already bolted to the tie strip — drop it in, wire it up, and you have a remotely-thrown turnout.
Nickel-silver Code 80 rail on moulded black ties with wood-grain detail. The integral switch machine is a twin-coil AC solenoid (12-16V AC accessory tap, momentary pulse) — same electrical design as the standalone #2590/#2591 but pre-mounted. A small sliding manual lever on the machine lets you throw the points by hand for testing or fault recovery. The included Switch Control Box (Atlas #56, mounting on a control panel) provides the momentary push-button control.
How to use
- Power the switch machine from a 12-16V AC accessory tap — do not use continuous DC, coils will overheat.
- Wire the three machine leads to the included Switch Control Box, or to any momentary push-button setup.
- Throw manually with the small sliding lever on the machine body for testing.
- Connect track rails with Atlas Code 80 rail joiners (#2535) — included with the turnout.
- Pair with #2705 (RH remote) for double-track crossovers; or use #2706 (LH manual) where remote control isn't needed.
